Europäisches Patentamt (EPA)

The European Patent Office (EPO) has been at home in Munich since 1977. Many Munich residents think of it above all for its imposing steel-skeleton headquarters along the Isar, constructed by the Architectural Offices of Von Gerkan, Marg and Partner and already a protected monument. In 2023, the EPO celebrates 50 years of the European Patent Convention.

On the occasion of the Long Night, the doors of the building will be completely open for the first time, from cellar to the 10th floor, to present the highlights of the art collection and offer insights into new and exciting utilitarian concepts for spaces that are already historic. In overview tours, you will be able to experience classics from the EPO collection, for instance by Panamarenko, Bernhard Luginbühl, Bridget Riley, Carsten Höller and Fausto Melotti, and get to know new acquisitions never yet on display by Harm van den Dorpel (ill.), Daniel Canogar, Paola Dávila, Lilly Lulay, Ivars Gravlejs and Afra Eisma.

In addition, there will also be a bar designed by Esther Stocker, a viewing area, a futuristic lab with media art and an exciting exhibition concerning art and climate change. Let yourself be amazed! 

Note: The exhibition in the culture room of the European Patent Office can be visited independently. In addition, guided tours of the art collection in the culture room are offered every half hour; registration for these tours takes place on site.
