In its permanent exhibition, the Holzknechtmuseum draws an arc through the development of the profession and poses questions to the future forest for discussion.

Due to the close connection with salt production in the Traunstein salt works, people have been talking about "Holzknechte" in the Chiemgau for more than 400 years. They are said to have a special professional pride and sense of tradition. When working in the mountain forest, there were and still are limits to the use of machines due to the terrain. Nevertheless, the profession has constantly evolved and today's foresters have to face many challenges.
Picture flags and exciting objects from the everyday life of the "Holzknechte" in the past and present make the museum in Munich's "Alter Hof" and its "Holzknechte" attractive. In Munich, the museum will be on site with the museum team and the "Holzknechte" of different professional generations during the Long Night (14.10.2023), providing insights into the lumberjack work of from former times and modern forestry.
